Re: Event 0: The Blue Ordeal

Explosions, crashes, and the ominous sound of a body hitting the water. Turquoise Protector was genuinely amazed that none of the shots in the exchange of fire had hit them. He cursed and bemoaned the fact that his Parent, Cul Howitzer wasn't here to race with him...

"Oi Cul! You'd better take part with me in the next Event, hear me?! We'll win the next one together!!"

He knows his cry should reach the spectator stands. Having let off some of his tension, he turns his eyes back to the road...

...and realises his shuttle, the blue-green #3, is actually first.

"..."

Protector turns back to look at his passenger. A little smile plays on Gorse Theory's lips...

"...you did something back there, right?"

Theory merely shook his head and pointed to the front.

"Watch your front, Protector! Just concentrate on the race!"

Hearing Samurai's word, Shadow holds onto his seat while trying to return fire as the car veered to the side. The aim this time is the thruster of #4. It doesn't matter which one, as long as one is damaged. And so, he unload his gun, shooting all 5 bullet left in the magazine.

Knowing that he will lose a few seconds reloading his gun later, he shouts to Samurai while shooting

"Samurai, lend me your weapons! Just do it!"

What he's planning to do is to throw Samurai's katana to continue the attack. The EAs itself can be summoned back and thus, throwing away your EAs doesn't have any disadvantages in here. What's more, Samurai's katanas might have better stats than his gun, dealing more damage in the process.

Yes, everything was going according to plan, they were now neck and neck with another car vying for first place, now if one of his comrades did something like the ice trick from earlier they'd be able to take the lead!

Or so he had though, somehow, someway, the car that had been next to them was now in front of them, this was...

"Not fair, how'd they get in front of us!?" Hero whined as he watched the car that had taken the number one spot, however as he watched the car an idea came to him, an idea born from the racing games he had seen and played before Brain Burst, an idea that perhaps Brain Burst racing was just like...those racing games racing!

Yes, it had to be...he thought anyways, and if he was right, they'd overtake them for sure!

With that thought, Hero moved the car to behind the car that had overtaken them, slowing it down so that they wouldn't end up crashing into the car.

Yes, that was right, Teal Hero was attempting to make use of something that he didn't even know the actual name of, that was the number one car's slipstream!

"Okay, buddy, let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Teal Hero:

    "Okay, buddy, let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Turquoise Protector saw a dark blue shadow loom in his rear-view mirror and turned to look-

The dark blue-green shuttle, similar to his armour colour but with a lower saturation, was rapidly gaining on him!

All our shuttles must have the same top speed, this was seen at the start.

The gears turn furiously in Protector's mind.

But this shuttle - Car #1, is gaining, because...because my shuttle is doing all the work in air resistance!

Protector's eyes narrow. In the corner of his mind, a sudden realisation clicks.

"Hang on Theory!!"

Protector pedals the clutch and puts the car in 3rd gear; the car slows for an instant, the released clutch not feeding power to the linear wheels. The steering wheel won't turn immediately even if he lets go of it for a moment. Protector spreads his hands slightly - putting in all his effort, and spins the wheel in the clockwise direction with all of his might!

His arms and the wheels blur into a hazy afterimage, sending the car into a deadly spin!

One-and-a-two-and-a-three!!

Protector, watching the blurry images of the field, times his spin and tries to get his shuttle back into the proper direction!

The Cold... it ripped through him, he felt the ice crawl over the vehicle the thought that it was over crossed his mind moments before both Reaper and Puppeteer reacted causing the ice to crack and fall off of the vehicle at the cost of Reaper and some pain.

"Good thinking"

He shouts to them before noticing that Chaos Reaper was gone, swearing he returns his attention back to the race anger creeping up in his mind, he had let Reaper be taken out, he wouldn't let Puppeteer be taken out too.

"Just Martyr is fine, we have to take out whoever froze us thats a dangerous weapon to have in a race. If its just Ice though play defense and ready yourself to crack it again"

He barks out as he steers the vehicle trying to move it behind vehicle 4, trying to use it to gain more speed.

"Come on, faster, faster must go faster"

He screams at the vehicle as he tightens his grip onto the steering wheel focusing purely on the vehicle ahead of him.

I have two at my hip. Gimme a second. Quickly moving through the command windows, «Samurai» equips «Fuujin-no-ken» and places it on his back. Go ahead and grab the one on my back. He unties «Regimental Katana» and «Chrome Wakizashi» with his left hand while focusing on the race. He tosses them underhanded into the back seat.

Teal Hero had decided to abuse the slipstream. The idiot driver in front of them decided to attempt a controlled spin, which was absolutely nuts. But as long as he was spinning...

Well, might as well fire and riddle the poor vehicle in front of them into the aftermath of a war zone. She unloaded both her guns at the spinning car in front of them, hoping she would get something more useful than the armor plating that coated the ships.

It didn't really matter anyway; she needed to build up some Killer Gauge or they would easily have a wonderful chance of going absolutely nowhere.

"Hey, Hero, make sure you don't crash into him. I'd hate losing, and your head if you make us."

Damson Incinerator fires another barrage of fireballs at the shuttle #5, slowing it down enough for the two of them to become finally close neck to neck. At the same time, Jonquil Shadow recieves from Chrome Samurai the two katanas and readies himself for combat, as both ships emit light sparks being really close to each other.

At the same time, shuttle #1 speeds in an attempt to overtake Protector and Gorse Theory, but, right before they are able to outrun it, shuttle #3 violently spins, heavily impacting against the side of Hero's ship and sending them flying all the way back to the left of the racetrack. However, Hero, despite his relative lack of skill, manages to control the vehicle before it crashes against the guard rail-!

While Eternity Moment fires at #3, which cannot be momentarily defended as trying to move to block the bullets with one's body would entail the risk of being thrown out of the ship, Ghost Seeker thrusts out his sword towards the nearest target available, the guard rail. And...

Due to a combination of the Duel Avatar's strength and sheer luck, his strike manages to impact the weak point of the structure with such strength that a good portion of it is ripped out, falling into the ocean with a loud splash. Simultaneously, with a pleasant to the ears -gloop- like sound, his Killer Gauge filled; 10, 20, and then it stopped at 30%. This meant Ghost Seeker was back at full strength...

And, what happened to shuttle #2? Thanks to their massive loss of weight and slipstream effect, they managed to gain enough speed to position themselves right behind ship #4. And thus, halfway across the race and as the entrance to the tunnel draws closer, they are neck to neck again...

As #4 and #5 got close to each other, Shadow empties his gun with one hand while randomly one of Samurai's katana with the other hand. He walks toward the edge of his shuttle and slashes wildly a few times towards #4 before stabbing it to #4's thrusther and reloads his gun

"Try to keep things like this!"

He shouted to Samurai, asking him to keep going as close as possible to #4. Keeping the gap close will negate Damson Incinerator's advantages of having a ranged weapon. Also, he can hijack #4 if the time is right. However, it is best to procure Damson's flamethrower for further use

As the #2 neared the pack once again, the purple avatar re-equips his puppet. Remaining crouched behind the large driver the puppeteer thinks out loud;

'We could hang around at the back for a while and let the other racers soften each other up, but that may mean we cannot catch up in time to win. However, we do have a speed advantage- my flamers would be more effective shooting back... How would you prefer to go about this, Matyr?'

Eternity Moment:

The idiot driver in front of them decided to attempt a controlled spin, which was absolutely nuts. But as long as he was spinning...

Well, might as well fire and riddle the poor vehicle in front of them into the aftermath of a war zone.

Event Conductor:

At the same time, shuttle #1 speeds in an attempt to overtake Protector and Gorse Theory, but, right before they are able to outrun it, shuttle #3 violently spins, heavily impacting against the side of Hero's ship and sending them flying all the way back to the left of the racetrack.

Just as Protector's desperate manuveur sends his car spinning, he feels the vehicle shudder in unison with loud reports: Shuttle #1 is shooting at him!

This is shaping up to be a bad idea--

*WHAM*

Shuttle #3 contacts the nose of Shuttle #1, sending it to the sides!

"NOW!!"

Gorse Theory yells from behind! Fighting the massive centrifugal forces, Protector strains- and turns the wheel-- back to their original orientation successfully! Protector doesn't waste any more time and works the clutch and gear stick until they're back at full speed and 6th gear.

Breathing hard, Protector knows the shuttle must have taken damage. And while he has certainly given shuttle #1 a hard knock, he won't be able to repeat that again. Every other shuttle that saw this daredevil trick of his will similarly attempt it to react whenever another shuttle draws close...

"Damnit! Damn iiiit!! Cul, why'd you make me sign up for this!!"

Cursing at the spectator stands, Protector turns back to his passenger who has been sitting at the back the whole time.

"Oi Theory! If you have any tricks, now's the time to use them before #1 starts shooting again!"

"Ow ow ow, that hurt, hey Justicemobile, are you okay!?" Hero shouted frantically as he regained control of the car, setting it back on it's course. That was a close one, the guy in front of them had done something real crazy to stop 'em, nonetheless not even spinning like a madman could hope to stop these Paragons of JUSTICE!

Letting go of one hand on the wheel, Hero equipped the Jetstream Blade and...passed it to Ghost Seeker?

"Hey, Seeker, I'm sure you can use this better than I can during this race! At least I don't think me swinging a sword while driving the justicemobile would do us much good..."

The damage their car had taken was incredibly irritating. Not only that, #3 was still in the lead. She would have to dispose of their only rival immediately. Everyone else was practically negligible because they were all too busy squabbling amongst themselves to do anything of major use.

Immediately, she activated Blue Rose, slowing down #3 due to their close proximity. They weren't going to lose the damn race yet. Carefully, she took aim at the "wheel" of the car with Time Piercer and fired, knowing she would definitely land a reasonable shot.

"For the love of God, pray that those idiots behind us don't do anything drastic."

Gorse Theory
Flooded Resort

For the time being, everything was going well. Yet, at the same time, he could not help but wonder if things were going too well. Although he was sitting in a posture with arms crossed, that to someone who was too busy driving to notice would seem he felt absolutely confident about his skills...

He was probably the most nervous of all the Linkers in the race, and the one with the least self confidence in his abilities.

His talent was something that did not aid him to fight, nor granted him an awesome power; but for some reason, his concerns were rapidly dismissed by his Parent with a shrug.

-”You clearly don't understand. You are the first and only Burst Linker I have seen with this sort of ability. It's your gun, your sword, and your shield.”

I... I... Huh?

The moment he looked behind to check on the shuttles behind him, many parameters were displayed before his eyes. The range of their weapons, the estimated range of the abilities that had been shown as well as the area of danger of Enhanced Armaments like the Blue Rose.

'Attack Prediction/Enhanced Armament ability/Indirect + Area of Effect/Ice Type/Possible Degree of Threat/High'

-”Protector!”

Gorse Theory suddenly grabbed Protector's hands gripping the steering wheel without concerning himself about the potential awkardness of the situation, swiftly veering the car to their right. Only a fraction of a second after, the the humidity of the space where the shuttle had been located froze solid, but that was not all yet...

The instant Eternity Moment pointed her gun at the shuttle, new alphabetic letters suddenly appeared above her gun, the 'Time Piercer':

'Attack Prediction/Enhanced Armament Attack, Long Range + Indirect/Piercing + ??? Type, Possible Degree of Threat/Mid'

The moment he focused on the warning came, a prediction of the attack path was displayed, showing the exact place where the Time Piercing Bullet would strike the ship-!

-”P-Protector-dono! Veer to the left, now!”

And thus...

Without anyone noticing, a miracle occured.

The bullet which by all rights should have striken the ship's left rear thruster missed just barely its target, enabling shuttle #3 to remain at top speed and keep its first place.

That was Gorse Theory's ability: 'Theoretical Future Prediction'. As long as it's something he has seen, he can accurately predict the trajectory and degree of threat of his opponent's actions. An ability that was described by his Parent as something as ridiculous as...

-'How oddly appropiate. I have the right eye of a kami, and you, my 'Child' got the left. How about from here onwards we name ourselves something like... The Eye of Ra, Effective Omniscience, or something like that? Just an idea.'

***

Meanwhile, Jonquil Shadow stood on the edge of his car, attacking a few times with the weapons lent to him by Regimental Samurai. Confidently thrusting the blade into the thruster of the #4 ship...

Damage was dealt, but the ship kept on running at a speed high enough to throw Jonquil Shadow off balance, shattering Regimental Samurai's precious katana in the process into pieces that vanished right afterwards, indicating the Enhanced Armament had been broken. The moment he landed on the ground and before he had any chance to react...

He was run over by ship number 2 and sent flying in the direction of the water.

[JONQUIL SHADOW HAS RETIRED]

[???]

A good metres ahead of the racers, Jonquil Shadow barely hung on with his right arm to the right guard rail. Below him, a enormous fin has begun to stroll on circles below him while tentacles slowly emerge, trying to make contact with his legs... He has a single chance to survive, and he'd better not botch it up.

Damson laughed as he saw Jonquil fall. He turned to watch it from behind, and saw him get run over. He stifles his laugh and considers that would of been incredibly painful. He turned back towards the #5 car and aimed his Flame Waker at it.

"Heh. I would say to ram 'em, but that'd be too reckless for my taste."

Saying that to Madras, he fires his 4 shots at the #5 car yet again. 4 shots are left before he will have to reload it. After firing, he steadies himself in the car and faces the car next to theirs. With Gulf Saw on his other arm, he is prepared, if he has to, to defend against melee attacks from the #5 car.

A few minutes after getting his very skull crushed by giant ass teeth, Chaos Reaper finally re-spawns back into the crowd, groaning in pain as he still feels the pain from that earlier crush.

Uuggghhh, my HEAD is fucking killing me man.....that damn Kraken-like creature hurts..... Chaos Reaper would think to himself as he walks and looks up at the racing screen. Noticing that all Teams are neck and neck, at the same time, seeing that his team, Car #2 is stuck in 4th Place. (You can imagine Chaos Reaper's actual eyes and face going Blood Red and steam coming out of his Ears and Nose when he sees this)

Enraged by this, Chaos Reaper instantly equips his Scythe, and down through the stands in order to be able to get close enough to yell his message clearly enough to Martyr and Puppeteer.

"Harlequin Martyr......Eminence Puppeteer..........I hope you guys realize that I don't tolerate FAILURE after taking one for the team!..........If you guys DO NOT win THIS Race, there will NOT be a chance for you guys to MAKE UP for it......EXCEPT by ME Hunting YOU down, and exterminating ALL of your BURST POINTS!!" Chaos Reaper would should into the Race, hoping that this message gets through to Harlequin Martyr and Eminence Puppeteer, he did after all, take one for the team in order for them to be in the Top 2, when in reality, they're still in 4th Place, and it just irritated his very soul, knowing that an amazing opportunity to gain Free Burst Points AND a Special Enhanced Armament, that he could use for a specific plan in the near future.

Just you wake.......I will exterminate you.....you're holding me back from going all out.......you witch. Chaos Reaper would think to himself as he walks back up to the Top of the Crowd, to watch the race from the best View Possible.

Gorse Theory:

    al]Attack Prediction/Enhanced Armament ability/Indirect + Area of Effect/Ice Type/Possible Degree of Threat/High»]

    -”Protector!!”

Gorse Theory suddenly grabbed Protector's hands gripping the steering wheel without concerning himself about the potential awkardness of the situation, swiftly veering the car to their right.

As Protector steered the car back, he was slack-jawed in amazement. Such an impossible ability to predict an attack trajectory actually exists...

...and this is the power that 'Theory' holds. Riron Mirai Yosoku 理論未来予測 - a calculated prediction of the future.

Momentarily overwhelmed with admiration, Protector returned his eyes to the road. With his left hand, he deftly manipulated his game menu:

"...I've underestimated you, Theory. Take this; Equip The Liberator!"

With a muted light effect, a large, light tower shield was generated and took its place on Protector's arm. He shook his wrist slightly and the shield disengaged.

"...please, take care of me."

Re: Event 0: The Blue Ordeal

Post by R4yleonard on Sun Jan 12, 2014 12:58 pm

The pain from the incident is enough to sent him unconscious right away, but being a hardened veteran with many experiences of something much more painful than being rammed by a shuttle made him able to endure it to a degree. It is still really painful though, and he can't brush this fact away so easily. He can only endure.
As of right now, he's still hanging on the rail guard with Shadow Gun in his left hand a katana from Samurai (he can't confirm which one) still dangling on his waist, with his chest throbbing from all the pain before. Tentacles starts to appear from the water beneath him, trying to grab him and pull him down.

The GM really has such a bad taste, leaving such monster around to end the unlucky one in a cruel way

He shot 3 times, trying to wound the tentacles. While this won't many damage (in his opinion), he might provoke whatever is trying to drag him down and make it come out. After this, he simply dives away to the rail guard, waiting for the reaction of whatever monster is in there

"Eminence Puppeteer..." The avatar thought he heard his name shouted in the crowd but a sudden harsh sound, somewhere between a 'clang!' and a 'crunch' stole his attention- A body flew past and plopped in the water.

The Puppeteer snorted in amusement, peering over the driver's shoulder; "Hey did we just hit him? That musta hurt like hell!"

The purple avatar quickly took note of the other teams' statuses; the player they hit must have belonged to the #5 vehicle, which now only had a driver. The #4 seemed to have the upper hand in taking care of #5.
Ahead of that, the #3 shuttle was lucky to evade a shot from the 'justicemobile', very lucky indeed.

"One less competitor to fire at us"

Martyr comments as he focuses on the mayhem ahead of him, so many different powers and attacks flying from vehicle to vehicle only showed him how weak he actually was, his hands grasp the wheel tighter than before as he continues to use a vehicle ahead of him to slipstream back into the race.

"Lean back and hold on!"

He shouts as an idea comes to mind as he tries to will his vehicle closer to the one in front of him, closer towards number 4 as he tries to shift his weight as best he can towards the back of the vehicle hoping to lift the front of the vehicle upwards further aiming to catch the back of number for and use it as a ramp to pass them.

Dammit. Hold on, «Shadow»! «Samurai» maneuvers the vehicle towards his passenger, hoping that he could make it in time.

"Seeker, I'll focus on shooting down shuttle #5. You go and try to hit whomever you want with the sword, just don't deny me any KG. I need that."

Eternity Moment was frustrated at missing a shot; the plan would have worked amazingly well had it not been for the irritating factor known as fate. If there was something she could do without, it would be predeterminism in all its forms. She wanted to carve out her own fate.

With that, she took careful aim at one of the wheels at shuttle five, and fired both of her guns, praying that she would land a shot.

"Got it."

Seeker nods once to his own words as he looks at the enemy cars, one of them had already been dealt with but there were still more then enough to cause troubles for their lone blue vehicle. Ahead of them was only one vehicle, the only one that had managed the feat so far in the race: #3. That was to be his target then, if he was able to strike that car with his sword he would be able to get their vehicle ahead.

"I'm going for #3, look out for any fallout."

With those words he got into position, a moment passed as he steeled himself. His blade too long for any normal combatant but fit him perfectly poised to strike.

Another moment passed, he drew back...

...And finally hurled his weapon at the vehicle

But that was not all, in mid-flight the sword had taken a magnificent white glow, this was his ability: <<Pierce>>. Nothing could stand against this blade of truth now, threatening to destroy anything that dared to block its path to its target before finally slaying the enemy car.

As shuttle #5 accelerated, Eternity Moment's guns fired upon his rear left hover wheel, with enough accuracy so that most shots would inflict significant damage upon it. The indicator of the wheel first glowed yellow, then red, and then...

The ship suddenly lost control, as the built in machines tried to repair the damage as soon as possible so that it would return to the race. But, at that same instant, Jonquil Shadow refused Regimental Samurai's help, and kept on fighting the monsters bravely in a desperate attempt to save face for both of them. Regimental Samurai kept on pressing the accelerator while stretching his hand to save his friend...

And the result was-

Jonquil Shadow was eaten in a single bite by the Large class Enemy Megalodon, with the ship barely avoiding being eaten as well, but still taking heavy damage in the process. Before he had the chance to register any pain, he was already in his reserved Gallery seat, where he was recieved with mixed cries of 'Good job' by those from his same Ward and some demanding that they return them their weekly allowance they bet on them.

Regimental Samurai kept on running, stuck in last place and having been forced to abandon his friend...

***

At the same time, Ghost Seeker launched his Enhanced Armament at his target with deadly precision. Before Gorse Theory, who had never seen him in battle before, numbers and words danced wildly in his face, giving him next to no information about the incoming attack-!

WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!?

Without the security given by knowledge, he felt utterly powerless. As a last resort, he grabbed the shield given to him by Turquoise Protector, and set it between him and the polearm thrown at their ship. And the result was something his eyes could not believe.

Cutting through the shield and the ship's hull as if it were made of butter, it only stopped when it clashed against Gorse Theory's body due to the Health Gauge lock. Otherwise, he, too, would have been utterly destroyed along with it. Emitting flashy spark effects, but still functional apparently, the ship went on as the Enhanced Armament returned with some light damage to its rightful owner.

***

Before their eyes appeared a display of colours they had probably only seen a few times. The road ahead of them ended in the future 'Tokyo Bay Aqua Line II resort' to enable rest between trips. There were ramen stalls, some shops that specialized in apparently selling accessories, and even a hotel to take a few z's. However, this wasn't the time to sleep. After all, in front of them was the entrance to the tunnel, filled with strange rainbow-like rings, resembling the portal they'd entered with arrows pointing towards them.

They were teleporters that would instantly take them to the last kilometres of the race. If one failed to pass through them, one might as well consider himself having lost the race...

The shuttle body shuddered, metal screeched, and Theory yelled out from behind,"We've been hit, Protector!"

Protector cursed quietly. Apparently it was something not even Theory nor his new Armament could stop...there was nothing he could do, but drive on--

"Theory! Just tell me whether to veer left or right! Take care of the prediction, I'll do the driving!"

Just as he yelled that, an ominous *crunch* of metal and bones sounded from his right; in the right wing mirror, Shuttle #5 was nearly swallowed up in a gargantuan jaw. And in front of him, a shimmering rainbow ring with arrows pointing inwards shined.

--placed here, they must serve some purpose. They don't look harmful either...

"I'm going straight in!!"

Keeping pedal to the metal, Protector headed straight for the closest gate.
