Ishii Mamoru (Olive Gauss) [Ready for Evaluation]

Post by PeterPHuang on Thu Oct 24, 2013 1:29 am

Real World:
Name: Ishii Mamoru

Age: 15

Gender: Male

Appearance: From his height to his build to his looks, Mamoru’s appearance can be summarized with one word: average.  Mostly uncaring and lacking the fashion sense to be improving his own image, both his short black hair and uniform are often left in a disheveled mess.  It isn’t so difficult to imagine why he tends not to leave a lasting impression.

Spoiler:

History:Born to a well-off middle class family, Mamoru expressed interest in the field of business since a very young age.  Delighted by the fact that the inclination toward the field of business seemed to run in their blood, his parents were more than happy to take him along to observe their work.  At the age of 14, he began taking on small odd jobs in the company during afterschool and weekends.  Though mostly occupied with mundane tasks of copying documents or filling in numbers, the proud father did reward his son with some compensations for the initiative to help.  Mamoru wasn’t about to complain.  After all, a fatter wallet is never a bad thing.

In stark contrast to the foreshadowing of his bright future in the corporate world, Mamoru fared much worse in the learning environment.  Not a very charismatic person by nature, his occasionally bumbling speech and overly logical way of thinking complicate Mamoru’s attempt to fit in with his peers.  He remained out of sight and mostly out of mind, just the loner kid who linger in the corner of the room.

Remaining mostly undetected through elementary school, he came to the middle school with a higher hope that things would turn out for the different.  After all, it was a little unpleasant to be affirming to all his classmate that they were indeed in the same class and watching their faces contorted in disbelief.  Nothing major, of course, but something was better to be avoided.

Utilizing his knack in studying and writing reports, Mamoru’s effort did find him a small niche in the middle school community.  The inconvenience of churning out extra works and staying in tip-top shape for every lesson was a reasonable price to be paid in making some new acquaintances.  Still, academic favors could only go so far in adding to a person’s appeal without making him seem like a nerd.

His real time to shine came a little later.  Mostly out of gratefulness (and partly out of the surplus in his wallet), he lend out some cash to help out a friend in need. In the process, his comparatively well-off financial status soon became common knowledge.

It seemed to be a good decision at the time.  For a brief moment, he did become a sensation in their small group of ten.

Someone forgot their wallet? Someone didn’t bring lunch? Someone need to borrow money? Someone need to throw a party?

No problem, just go to Mamoru.  Who knows, the rich boy may even treat you extra.

Though increasingly stripped of cash, Mamoru was happy to allow their demands to escalate. .  With frugality forming the core of his personality, he hadn’t been spending much of material items.  Spending them all on his friend just seemed like a good option.  After all, seeing everyone smiling was worth it.

Little did Mamoru know that it was a prime set up for a surprising revelation.  One lunch break when an honest mistake of forgetting a notebook had him returned to the classroom, Mamoru came across his so-called ‘friends’ roaring in a wave of a laughter.

That walking wallet…That money bag…Why would anyone want to be his friend otherwise?

Various names were thrown about in his absence, undoubtedly referring to him.  For a moment, he just wished that he hadn’t stumbled across them and moved on in a blissful ignorance. Calmly regulating his breath, Mamoru showed himself to those ungrateful excuse of a friend and watched their sneers transformed into a sheepish smiles.

His suspicion was confirmed.  Now the smiles that used to enliven his mood only made him nauseous.

Although shocking at first, the revelation eventually ceased being a cause of great surprise or anguish, merely an affirmation of the sneaking suspicion he had kept bottled inside.  The only force that seemed to matter in the cold dispassionate world was the self-interest that serves each man.  The revelation reversed his train of thought completely.  No more ‘goodness of heart,’ no more altruism, from that point onward it was all about trading benefits.

He was a fool for believing in friendship…in camaraderie…or in whatever name it could be called.  This was just how the world is supposed to operate.

Mamoru was sufficiently intelligent to locate the source of his distress, but what was there to be done except for making do with what he had? He found a new solace in the presence of money that produced a reassuring weight in his trouser pocket.  If only temporarily, it could buy a temporary illusion of friendship by coercing favor and respect.

He couldn’t deny that the desire of his was superfluous and unnecessary, but it was an alternate solution in taking the trouble off his mind.  A damned fine one at that, if he had to say.

Nevertheless, Mamoru hoped deep inside for a world that isn't so cold and distant and the people not so self-serving.  He would occasionally pray that tomorrow things would turn out to be so.  He prayed to be able to somehow attract people without resorting to the allure of money, and that people would appreciate him with no string attached.

Until then, it would be exchanges of money for favors and favors for money.

…After all, that’s just what everyone seems to want, isn’t it?

On comparative scale, Mamoru’s encounter with Brainburst program was a relatively straightforward one, starting with a ‘friend’ in academic distress who received his help in the form of an extra copy of literature report.  Courteous words of thanks did nothing to deter Mamoru from pressing for his end of the bargain, only to find out in dismay that his ‘friend’ was dead broke.  Not even a yen left to be paid for his effort.
The other party seemed to be having another idea, however.  After some tense negotiation, a game was instead offered as his payment.

“Take it, bro.  This program worth a lot more than your crappy fee.  Consider it an extra payment for saving my hide.”

Not exactly a fan of bartering, Mamoru was far from satisfied with the breach of his well-earned compensation, but, with the some contemplative chin-rubbing later, he did conclude that it was at least better that going home empty-handed.

Mamoru gingerly accepted the cable, and, with that, their deal came to a close.

He installed the program that night after working hour went by and homework were finished.  If this was supposed to be his payment, then it better be worth all the effort he put into writing that report.   Some grumblings followed as he noticed no particular changes from the program.  With anger as his company, Mamoru drifted off in what seemed to be the longest night in his life.

His nightmare was relatively straightforward.  Money flying away and people walking away, and he was powerless to stop either.  Simple, but horrifying all the same.  Not the money, he could take that blow.  Lost money could be regained, but, once people walk away, they are gone for good.  Hearing his voice scream out in desperation, he helplessly watched as they disappear from his eyes, one by one.

Then again, why would it be surprising? Aside from pocket loaded of cash, just what good quality did he actually have that could possibly keep them around him anyway?

Mamoru woke up with a lingering sense of apprehension and a bad taste in his mouth that soon disappeared as he made a pleasantly unexpected discovery of the accelerated world.  Grudgingly, he had to admit the game was worth much more than any ‘crappy fee’ he could ask for.

Personality: The prime example of someone who is logical to a fault, Mamoru has the tendency to neglect the finer aspects of life and approach in the world exceedingly logical manner.  Both sensuality and aesthetic are likely to be lost upon him, who would rather view life through the practical lens. Unfortunately, as a result of past incident, this painfully logical view of his is also extended toward the matter of interpersonal relationship.  Treating contact with other people as a form of transaction, he often acts out to protect his own benefit whether tangible or emotional.  While it undeniable that he can be helpful in his own right, his assistance are usually not given for the goodness of heart.  Some forms of fair compensation must be given before he can be compelled to action.  Admittedly, his unhealthy obsession with money make it so that a thick wad of bills would be the most ideal.  These personality quirks worsened by his bluntness and lack of charisma ensures that his circle of real friend remained fairly limited.

Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be accurate that judge that Mamoru is unintelligent from all his faults.  In fact, he is notably adept in convincing and maneuvering others to do his bidding whether through the financial means or other form of compensation, a perk that turned out to be immensely useful when combined with his knack in making money.  Make no mistake that his growing swathe of bills is intended for opulence.  For him, accumulating money is just not just a means but an end in itself, thus he had little qualm in spending them away should the opportunity arise.

Points of Distinction:

  • As mentioned before, there’s not much to make him stand out from the average person in the term of appearance.
  • He can be inappropriately blunt to the point of appearing inconsiderate to most people.  Forget being good at heart, for Mamoru it’s just all about trading benefits.
  • He has a tendency to rub his chin when deep in thought and scratch his cheek in embarrassment.
  • Random trivia, quotes, and statistics are often used into his everyday speech, not out of the desire to boast, but more as a force of habit

Brain Burst Avatar: Olive Gauss
Appearance:
Spoiler:

Imagine this guy without the machinegun and thrusters in a more yellowish tint

Explanation: Gauss’ ability is the embodiment of the Mamoru’s inner dilemma between the desire of having the charm to attract those around him and the distrust that shun away stranger.  This delicate balance between the two end of the spectrum manifested in the magnetic force of repellence and attraction.  His coping mechanism to divert attention toward the empowering sense of money and hope in prayer for a kinder world caused his duel avatar to be in a shade of olive green (dark yellow + dark green).
His EA, Plutus’ Nickel, alludes to Mamoru’s obsession with the money and his use of money as buffer in keeping those around him at bay

Parent: Takaaki Naoya (Obsidian Jaguar)

Stats:
STR:  100 (A)
DIR: 50 (B)
AMR: 50 (B)
TAC: 60 (B)
SPL:  30 (C)
INT: 30 (C)
AGI: 10 (D)
KG: 30 (C)
==========
ATK: 80 (B+)
DEF: 80 (B+)
B&W: 20 (From SPL to DIR)

Killer Move: Electromagnetic Pulse
Cost: 25%
Description: Duel avatars and loose objects within 20 meters range can either be repelled or attracted toward Olive Gauss, depending on the polarity.
The force of the magnetic field can be calculated by
[AMR (Mass) + SPL (Skill strength)] x [1 + (level of magnetic charges x 0.5)]
The effectiveness of the move is applied to the opponent’s STR with the penalty of 4% per meter away from Gauss. The move is particularly effective against metal color avatars who is treated as being perpetually charged to level 1.

Weakness:

  • Sharp damage fallout at range
  • Additional damage depends upon collision with terrain (thus demand that the terrain be full of physical obstruction).
  • Physical collision with Gauss can also damage him
.

Secondary Move: Overcharged Induction
Cost: Depends on charge level
Description: Induct a target with magnetic charge upon contact with Olive Gauss or Plutus’ Nickel.  The charge will remain on a target for 1 minute after induction.  The effect varies depending on the level of charge.
Effect:

Level 1 (No cost) - Slight attracting or repelling force within the vicinity of other charged objects, Plutus’ Nickel, and Olive Gauss [10% of TAC].
Level 2 (20% KG) - Solid projectiles trajectory will be slightly deviate in the direction of the charged target.  Moderate attracting or repelling force that may cause weak target to be stuck to other charged objects, Plutus’ Nickel, and Olive Gauss. [50% of TAC].
Level 3 (40% KG) - Loose metallic objects will gravitate toward the target, making it difficult to move at high velocity. Solid projectiles trajectory will be altered and actively deviate toward but not necessarily connect with the charged target.  Strong attracting or repelling force that may cause the target to be stuck to charged objects, Plutus’ Nickel, and Olive Gauss [100% of TAC]

Weakness:

  • Gauss have to be in direct contact with the target to apply the charge
  • The existing charge on a target can be removed upon exposure to fire damage.
  • Only one charge can be laid upon a single target per turn, both from this move and contact with Plutus’ Nickel.  EA and Duel Avatar are targeted separately
  • The effectiveness of the move is dependent on the fact that the terrain contain substantial amount of metallic objects

EA: Plutus' Nickel
Description: Two cripplingly heavy circular discs that levitate within two meter radius around Gauss.  Each disc has the radius of 50cm and the thickness of 8cm and needed to be actively control in combat, one by each hand.  They are mainly used as shields and, offensively, as bludgeon.  Plutus Nickels is made from ferromagnetic material with each magnetic pole at the opposite face and, thus, is treated as having a constant charge within itself.
Effect: Contact with Plutus’ Nickels will build slight magnetic charge in similar to overcharged induction. Continuous contact will further amplify the charge as listed below.
1 Post = Level 1 Charge
2 Consecutive Posts = Level 2 Charge
3 Consecutive Posts = Level 3 Charge

Weakness:

  • Gauss would have to be within two meters of the discs for effective control, thus they perform very poorly as long range projectiles.
  • By extension, they can only be used once for long range strike before forcing Gauss to physically run toward them for retrieval.  (Or, alternatively, pull them back using electromagnetic pulse at the cost of 25% KG)
  • Although requiring no cost to be applied, the target must be in constant of the EA for the specified amount of post for the charge build up to occur. Simply avoid touching Plutus’ Nickel for a post and the number require to build up the charge will reset.

Last I checked, we're only allowed a KG and an Ability or EA. Which means you're gonna have to lose «Overcharge Induction» or «Plutus' Nickels». And with the latest "update", Starter EAs no longer give stat points or an ability at Level 1.

Then you might not have checked soon enough. I've talked with Tusjecht yesterday, and he revising the system so that you'll have the choice between two moves or two moves and an EA.

Actually I think the two moves is: A Killer move and a normal move (As in, a move that shouldn't cost KG and is basic, like punch or kick).

Well Dranes is right but normal moves can consume KG too I would pull the quote but I'm on my phone.

Charles, the EA no longer grants anything extra; no third move, no stat boosts, nothing at Level 1. Besides removing incentives to give themselves an EA, the EA which embodies the users trauma, may therefore use one or both moves.

As for passive skills (aka Normal Moves) I think i need to state this clearly on the app sheet the next edit; Passive Skills can be further categorised into two types: Normal Activation, they don't consume KG and can be used any time. Limited Activation skills consume KG over time so long as the KG gauge is partially filled, and/or activated upon command.

I'll review the sheet later tonight.

Did someone call me? I haven't even commented on this Char App. Or are you posting this at the wrong place?

The sheet is fine, so the only comments I have are: DAs aren't really *that* large, a height of 2 metres, or the vincinty of that number is fine. If the avatar was particularly tall/short, there would have to be something in the character's History to wish as such, and as it is there is none in Mamoru's 'ordinary'-ness.

You have two more uses of your old name, Neon Gauss. Ctrl + F and find them.

I'll give my approval after those are fixed.

Done.
Do keep in mind that I changed the stat around a little, so do give a look whether that's fine with you.
